i know Tan Chui Mui recently.. she is one of the new Malaysian new wave (or independent cinema, if you like). i watched her film, "love conquers all", like a month ago but the impression is still in the air..
i would like to say that i have forgot phrases like, "you complete me" or "i don't know how to quit you". all i remember is "it's my heart and now, it's broken."
watching this movie made me remember that there is a phrase like "you complete me" or "i don't know how to quit you". basically, the film is about personal journey to the most adventurous and mysterious place in the earth:human heart. the film tells about the most difficult journey and search in the human life: to find a love. the premise is simple: a man loves a woman. initially, a woman does not love him but instantly she develops a deeper feeling and finally loves him.
love costs a lot, more than life itself. she loves and then she lost everything. it's a trade. she just realised that love is stronger than death. love is all she could afford to survive life.
i can't stop but shed a tears. ohh, no, i'm bathed in tears. how can I relate her experiences with my own? how can i deeply fall for that? how can i share the same experience? i believe that i don't really need to refer this film with Hou Hsiou Hsien or Tsai Ming Liang. its ordinariness, its dailiness, its serenity are i believe, the result of difficult journey and reflection.
i always think that Malaysian independent cinema is over-rated, but watching Tan Chui Mui is a very rewarding experience. and thanks God, she is a woman! :)
